PINO SONDELLI

Director, Director of Photography, and Film Professor.

After earning a diploma in Cinema and Photography in the early 1960s, he specialized in black-and-white and color film developing and printing, later completing his education with an industrial diploma and musical studies (double bass and cello), which would deeply influence his visual language.

Since 1972, he has worked in television as a camera operator, collaborating with all Rai networks (RAI Uno, Due, Tre), as well as national and European broadcasters (Germany, the Netherlands), producing over 1,500 news, sports, cultural, and entertainment reports.

Starting in 1984, he has been active as a Director of Photography in film and television, and since 1989 also as a director for commercials, reportage, shows, and multicamera broadcast programs. For three years, as a director, he collaborated with the newspaper “Il Mattino”, and in 1992 created the show celebrating the paper’s centennial.

He has signed dozens of productions for Rai, TMC, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, festivals, and home video, working with internationally renowned artists and musicians including Pino Daniele, Frank Sinatra, Baglioni, Peppino di Capri, Gino Paoli, and Gli Osanna.

Since 1990, alongside his artistic work, he has been deeply committed to education: he has directed courses and workshops for European institutions, academies, and secondary schools, including DOC/IT, the New York Film Academy, the Juvenile Detention Institute of Nisida, the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, and, since 2014, ABAN – Academy of Fine Arts of Nola, where he has also served since 2014 as Head of the Department of Cinematography; Screenwriting, Directing, and Photography.

* 2002 European Oscar for Cinematography (“Vernissage – Caravaggio 1607”)

* “Globo d’Oro” (Golden Globe, Italy)

* 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award, presented at Montecitorio, Chamber of Deputies (Sala della Lupa)

* National Award for Culture and Legality Always attentive to social issues, he has promoted PON and IFTS educational projects with numerous schools in Southern Italy, contributing to the spread of film culture among younger generations.
