GIOGIO’ FRANCHINI
Editor, he has worked with Paolo Sorrentino, Jonathan Demme, Antonio Capuano, Valeria Golino, Antonietta De Lillo, Andrea Molaioli, Sergio Rubini, Roberta Torre, among other things..
Born in Naples on July 11, 1959. After a young professional activity as a theatrical light designer, university studies on cinema with Mino Argentieri and Valerio Caprara and editing seminars with Roberto Perpignani and Paolo Cottignola, in 1992 he began a long collaboration as editor with MEGARIS, Neapolitan center of film and television production, carrying out an intense freelance activity between Naples and Rome.
In ’95 he wins with “Non Porno Più“, reinvention in hardcore key of the famous Hitchcockian courtyard window, the First Prize at Preview for the Italian Independent Cinema of Bellaria in the 150 seconds section with a fixed theme. Also in ’95 brings the post-film production in Naples: “Racconti di Vittoria” is the first film edited in the capital of Campania with a non-linear digital system (AVID Film Composer).
The following year he introduced for the first time an AVID system in the Nuovo Cinefonico of CINECITTA’: “Pianese Nunzio 14 anni a maggio” is the first film edited in the historical factories of via Tuscolana without the aid of a traditional moviola.
Still in ’96, he follows the Formula One races on European motor racing circuits by setting up the services of “Grand Prix”, news and similar Mediaset productions.
In ’98 he wins the CIAK D’ORO – best editing – for the film “Tano da morire” by Roberta Torre.
In these years he makes numerous trailers and as a promoter he receives an alert at the Merano TV Festival at of ’98. In the same year he collaborated on the program “Amado mio Amada mia” by Paolo Serbandini produced by Palomar for RAIDUE.
In ‘99 he took part in the production of the CD-ROM “Cent’anni di cinema napoletano” (Centennials of Neapolitan Cinema), devising the theme sound.
The following year he produced with Megaris, of which he became a member, “Non è giusto” by Antonietta de Lillo.
In 2002 he received a double nomination for the Nastri D’Argento (editing L’uomo in più – Luna rossa) and in 2003 he wins an AWARD VESUVIO with “Il pareggio non esiste” at the NAPOLI FILM FESTIVAL.
In these years he has edited many music videos (Almamegretta, Giorgia, Planet Funk, Elisa, Le Vibrazioni, Nino D’Angelo) and has dedicated himself to teaching activities through lessons, internships and seminars.
Among others, make use of his contribution: the Toscanini Foundation, the University of Parma, the Federico II of Naples, La Sapienza of Rome, Sister Orsola Benincasa of Naples, the Multimedia Institute of Writing and Image of Pescara, the Documentary School (City of Science – Istituto Luce), the Academy of Architecture of Mendrisio (CH), the Holden School of Turin, the Volonté School and the Experimental Centre of Cinematography.
He has been nominated several times for the Nastri d’Argento and David di Donatello, in 2005 he won again the CIAK D’ORO for the editing of “Le Conseguenze dell’amore” by Paolo Sorrentino; in 2006 he won the FLAIANO AWARD for “La Terra” by Sergio Rubini and “La guerra di Mario” by Antonio Capuano, in 2008 he won the DAVID DI DONATELLO for “La ragazza del lago” by Andrea Molaioli. Also for a film by Andrea Molaioli, “Il Gioiellino”, a jury of foreign critics awards him the PERPIGNANI PRIZE at the 2012 Bifest, the year of the meeting with the Oscar Jonathan Demme, with whom he collaborates in the production of “Enzo Avitabile Music Life.
In 2014 the Festival of Spello LE PROFESSIONI DEL CINEMA awards the prize for best editing to “Miele” by Valeria Golino, already nominated – for editing – to David di Donatello, Nastri d’Argento and Ciak d’oro, and finally “Due Euro per hour” by Andrea D’Ambrosio wins the prize for best editing at the International Festival INVENTA UN FILM IN Lenola .
In 2018 he compares for the first time with seriality: he signed the editing of four episodes of “1994”, third chapter of the original production SKY and Wild Side after 1992 and 1993.
